The Board of Directors of Safe and Sober Canada

Written by Gary

Melanie's death has affected friends, family and strangers alike. It has been life altering. I don't think anyone believes this can happen in their family but it does and we are living it. Please help us by supporting Safe and Sober Canada in our attempt to spare other families the grief that we are now living.

My children have always been my life. Since May 27, 2007, I feel as though a huge part of me is gone forever. I hear Melanie's voice and see her face everywhere I turn, even now, over three years later. There are still bad days when all I can do is think of what might have been. It is my hope that, by creating this organization, we can somehow give meaning to her death, and provide hope for others, for whom a similar fate might otherwise be waiting.

My name is Trista, and Melly was my best friend. I could never explain how much she meant to me, or how much I miss her, but I will try. Her smile could light a room and draw in everyone at the same time. Her laughter would make everyone else laugh with her, and Melanie would never let a friend be sad. Melanie's joy in life was bringing other people fun, and she never failed. Even now with Melanie gone, everytime i think of her smile, I smile. Everytime i remember her laughter, I laugh. But my favourite is the joy that we all now have because of the happiness she brought to us. Melanie was my best friend, but her warm heart and loving friendship will never be forgotten. I can only hope to bring half the people smile's that Melanie did, but I will never stop trying. Our Angle Melanie will never be forgotten, as we are her legacy, and we will carry it on.

If anything positive is going to come out of this tragedy it is to prevent another one from happening.

"Safe and Sober Canada" is a registered charity  incorporated to reach young adults about impaired driving and safety issues. Our goal is to make information available to them so that they can make better choices. We have a very passionate board of directors, energetic volunteers, great supporters and have ambitious goals. We are giving our members a voice and the tools to let them be heard. We are putting a human face on the issues and  we have been making a difference.  We welcome your support or involvment to reach out to our youth and prevent more tragedies.

Safe and Sober Canada was born just after Melanie Carter passed away.  She was just 21, a beautiful girl with a wonderful future unfolding before her. In one second, that future was taken away and the lives of those around changed forever. It hit hard and deep and after much soul searching it became clear that Safe and Sober Canada would give Melanie's life new meaning. The  love and need to help and teach people that Melanie had, would become our guiding principles and direction. We established the non-profit charity in 2008 and since then have been talking to church groups, schools, hospitals and anyone that has an interest. Melanie had a large circle of friends and through the work of Safe and Sober Canada her impact on the word will never be forgotten.
